With the arrival of students, Deir Ezzor is witnessing a significant increase in house rents in most of its residential neighborhoods, according to a reporter
of DeirEzzor24 Network.
Our reporter said that the city has witnessed a 50 to 60 percent increase in rents over the past two days, coinciding with the arrival of students from the cities of Raqqa and Hasakah to take university exams and secondary and preparatory certificates.
He added that the rent of a house in the Al-Muwazafin neighborhood reached 700,000 Syrian pounds per month, while the rent in the Al-Qusour neighborhood ranged between 1 million and 1.1 million Syrian pounds, and in the Cinema Fouad area, it ranged between 1.2 million and 1.5 million SYP per month. The same applies to Al-Wadi Street and the Al-Barid area in the Al-Joura neighborhood.
Qusay Al-Hussein, a student from Raqqa, confirmed that he and three of his colleagues rented a house in the Al-Qusour neighborhood for 1.1 million Syrian pounds per month to take their exams.
He added that there are additional fees imposed on rent, such as the real estate office commission, which is equivalent to a full month’s rent, in addition to a security deposit of up to 600,000 Syrian pounds. This makes the start of the lease a heavy burden for students due to these high costs.
He pointed out that many students try to rent homes away from real estate offices to avoid paying commissions, preferring to pay a month’s rent as a deposit instead of the office commission.
The students called on the relevant authorities to impose oversight on real estate office commissions, regulate them on the one hand, and control rental prices based on the type of home and the area on the other.
Most students prefer to rent homes in the neighborhoods of Al-Hamidiyah, Al-Ummal, and Al-Urfi due to their lower rents compared to areas such as Al-Joura, Al-Qusour, Douar Al-Halwein, and Cinema Fouad.
