Residents of Deir Ezzorr are experiencing difficulty moving between residential neighborhoods located on either side of the Euphrates River branch. This is due to the loss of most of the bridges connecting the residential neighborhoods, according to a DeikrEzzor24 Network.
The bridges in Deir Ezzor city, which connect the banks of the Euphrates River, were bombed by the former Assad regime forces and Russian aircraft, completely putting them out of service.
Bridges in Deir ez-Zor city are a lifeline due to the Euphrates River running through the heart of the city and the presence of residential neighborhoods on both banks of the river branch.
Among the articulated bridges connecting the areas are the Muhammad Bridge, the Durra Bridge, the Kanamat Bridge, and the Iman Hajjo Bridge, in addition to the suspension bridge, which is considered a symbol of the eastern region in general and Deir ez-Zor in particular.
Deir ez-Zor recently witnessed maintenance and restoration of the bridge connecting the two banks of the Euphrates River, known as the Iron Bridge. Located near the suspension bridge, this project has eased the burden of transportation for residents between the city and its countryside. Residents of Deir ez-Zor have appealed to the Syrian government and the city’s services directorate to undertake maintenance and restoration work on all small bridges and open them to bicycles and pedestrians as a preliminary step to facilitate all forms of transportation.
