The workshops affiliated with the Raqqa City Council began implementing a campaign to remove random landfills and relocate them to designated sites, as part of a plan aimed at improving the environmental conditions in the city.
Machinery is currently working to relocate waste dumps from the Euphrates River bed south of the city center, in addition to Al-Mashlab area to the east and the Modern Medicine area in the city center.
Garbage dumps have recently spread to the vicinity of the ancient wall of Raqqa, as a result of the shortage of waste collection vehicles, which has led to the accumulation of garbage in a number of vital areas.
Garbage containers are scheduled to be deployed in the sites from which random landfills are being removed, with the aim of organizing the waste collection process, improving the general appearance, and preserving public places, especially the Euphrates River bed, which is an outlet for residents and the city gate.
