The concerned authorities in Albukamal area announced the immediate suspension of river ferries, in order to ensure the safety of citizens and organize transit movement, according to what was confirmed by the head of the Emergency Response Committee, Dr. Fayez Abbas.
The district’s administration is scheduled to conduct a field inspection tour of the ferries tomorrow, Sunday, to ensure that they meet the necessary safety requirements before allowing work to resume.
Safety measures include inspecting engines, providing rescue rafts and safety supplies, preventing the presence of more than one ferry in the water during transit, in addition to emphasizing the prevention of overloading and adherence to the permitted load.
The measures also include securing a rescue boat, a diver, and an ambulance, as well as setting up a security barrier on both banks of the river to regulate transit traffic and ensure compliance with instructions.
The concerned authorities confirmed that the resumption of ferry service will not take place before all safety requirements are met, stressing that any violation of the instructions will expose the perpetrator to legal accountability.
