The Raqqa Agriculture Directorate announced widespread damage to the agricultural sector as a result of the floods that the Euphrates River witnessed during the past days, as a result of the water flow rising from 250 to 1,800 cubic meters per second.
The directorate explained that flood waters extended along the riverbed, submerging large areas of agricultural land and causing losses to crops and agricultural facilities.
Preliminary statistics showed that about 2,000 dunums planted with wheat and barley crops were damaged, while 120 irrigation engines were out of service due to high water levels.
The Directorate added that the damage also affected 10 fish farming pores, in addition to recording varying losses in orchards and fruit trees located within the areas affected by the floods.
The Directorate of Agriculture confirmed that its technical teams will continue to carry out field survey work to complete the assessment and accurate inventory of the damage, in preparation for identifying the needs of affected farmers and taking the necessary measures to support them.
