Mr. Safwan Sheikh Ahmed, Director of the Institutional Communications Department at the Syrian Petroleum Company, confirmed that the environmental dimension constitutes a basic priority within the company’s plans, pointing out that two weeks ago the implementation of a project to treat water accompanying oil began in a number of oilfields , including Thayyem, Al-Izba, and Al-Mazraa.
Sheikh Ahmed explained that the water accompanying oil extraction operations, which contains residues of petroleum materials and components that may negatively affect the soil and environment when not treated properly, was previously collected in designated basins, which necessitated the search for a radical and sustainable solution to this problem.
He explained that the new project depends on treating this water and re-injecting it into wells with the aim of enhancing the stratigraphic pressure and increasing production efficiency, in order to achieve two parallel goals: reducing environmental risks and preserving natural resources on the one hand, and improving performance and production on the other hand.
He pointed out that the project will continue to be implemented for several months, as part of an integrated plan that seeks to establish an environmental sustainability approach across the company’s various work sites.
