The Minister of Energy, Engineer Muhammed Al-Bashir, and the Governor of Deir Ezzor , Ghassan Al-Sayyid Ahmed, held a meeting with representatives of the owners of the crude oil burners in the governorate, which was devoted to informing them of the permanent cessation of the work of traditional burners after the return of state institutions to the region, and considering that this activity is no longer legitimate under the applicable legal frameworks.
The Minister explained that the incinerators had previously operated outside the scope of state authority and outside regulatory and supervisory frameworks, which made their activity in violation of the law, in addition to the major environmental and health damage they cause, including the spread of serious diseases such as cancer and respiratory diseases.
The Minister stressed that the next stage will depend on the oil derivatives produced by the Syrian government, which will be provided to the population through approved regular channels, stressing that regulating the oil derivatives sector comes within the framework of imposing the rule of law, protecting the environment, and maintaining public health.
The Minister also indicated that the Ministry will work to secure alternative job opportunities for workers in the field of burners within projects related to the oil sector in the governorate in the future, in a way that ensures an orderly transition to legitimate activities and limits the social effects resulting from stopping the work of burners.
