The area cultivated with wheat crops in Syria during the 2026 season reached about 1.4 million hectares, amid expectations that production will exceed 3 million tons, driven by improved climatic conditions and the return of large areas in the northeast of the country to the production cycle.
Al-Hasakah Governorate topped the list of wheat-producing governorates, accounting for about 37% of the total production, followed by Raqqa and Aleppo governorates with 18% each, then Deir Ezzor with 11%, reflecting the great importance of the Eastern Region in producing this strategic crop.
The quantities of wheat received from farmers exceeded 2.7 million tons, exceeding the annual needs of the Syrian Grains Corporation, estimated at about 2.55 million tons.
This significant improvement in production compared to the 2025 season, which recorded only about 934 thousand tons, comes as a result of drought and lack of rain, which led to a decline in areas and production that season.
