Construction material prices have recently begun to decline slightly in Deir Ezzor province, amid demands for further reductions from residents, according to a correspondent for Deir Ezzor 24 Network.
Our correspondent said that the prices of blocks and cement have decreased slightly recently. The price of a single block has reached 4,200 Syrian pounds (SYP), down from 5,700 Syrian pounds (SYP), and the price of a bag of cement has reached 75,000 Syrian pounds (SYP), down from 80,000 to 85,000 Syrian pounds (SYP).
“Abu Khaled,” a construction worker, said, “Despite these price drops, there is no significant construction or restoration activity so far in the city of Deir Ezzor.”
He added, “This significant stagnation in the construction sector is due to residents waiting for the government to issue a statement regarding reconstruction, hoping it will help them in this regard.”
Most residents are currently removing the rubble from destroyed homes to remove the iron and sell it, making a profit from its sale given the deteriorating living conditions and their inability to rebuild. Specialized workshops remove the iron in exchange for a 50 percent commission for the removal of the metal during the rubble removal process.
