The city of Ma’dan in the western Deir Ezzor countryside has been suffering from persistent outages and weak communications networks recently, according to a reporter for DeirEzzor24 Network.
Our reporter said that the city of Ma’dan and the town of al-Tabni, located in the western Deir Ezzor countryside, rely on only three coverage towers to provide telecommunications and internet services, which leads to pressure and poor service.
According to an MTN administrator, the reason for the weak communications is the recent increase in population in these areas, following the return of many displaced persons and refugees, which has put pressure on the communications networks and weakened them.
The administrator added that work is currently underway to install two new communications towers: one in the city of Ma’dan to provide services to the city and its surrounding villages, and another in the town of al-Tabni in the western Deir Ezzor countryside.
Yasser Al-Shaman, a resident of Ma’dan, told Deir Ezzor 24 that all residents have expatriates and rely on local telecommunications to communicate with their families on a daily basis.
Saeed Al-Abdullah, a merchant, told DeirEzzor 24, “We sometimes stop exchanging currencies due to internet outages and our lack of knowledge of the exchange rate, which can change by the minute.”
The residents, via Deir Ezzor 24, appealed to the Syrian government to support the western Deir Ezzor countryside by improving telecommunications and internet services by maintaining networks and installing new towers in their areas.
