The city of Deir Ezzor is witnessing a rise in bread prices recently, which is burdening the people, especially with the approach of the holy month of Ramadan.
A reporter of DeirEzzor24 Network said that the price of a loaf of bread from the ovens is 4,500 SYP, and from the stalls it is 5,500 SYP, and the cost of a loaf of siyahi bread is 8,000 SYP.
He added that severe congestion is forming daily at the ovens in Deir Ezzor, as a result of the recent increase in the population, and the arrival of university students from other cities in the eastern region, which prompts many people to buy from merchants and some of them resort to buying touristic bread.
A resident of the workers’ neighborhood in Deir Ezzor city told Deir Ezzor 24 Network that one loaf of bread contains 12 loaves, some of them 11 small loaves of subsidized bread, which means the family needs more than one loaf per day.
A bread representative in Al-Qusour neighborhood in Deir Ezzor city said that the population pressure at present due to the arrival of students to take exams at Al-Furat University on the one hand, and the return of some families to Deir Ezzor city on the other hand, has led to overcrowding at the representatives in addition to allocating only one loaf of bread per family regardless of its number.
The people of Deir Ezzor, through the DeirEzzor24 network, appeal to the Supply and Bakeries Department to address this crisis and meet the demands of the people in general and during the month of Ramadan in particular.
