Several bakeries suspended their work in the areas of Deir Ezzor (east of the Euphrates) and have closed completely for several days due to the great collapse of the Syrian pound and the rising prices.
The collapse of the Syrian pound has led to a significant rise in the prices of the basic materials necessary for bakeries’ work, such as flour, yeast and preservative bags, in addition to their scarcity and unavailability.
If available, a bag of flour has reached 30,000 Syrian pounds, and a can of yeast exceeded 2,000 Syrian pounds, while the price of one preservative bag reached 25, which has posed a real challenge to bakeries work.
In the areas controlled by Assad’s forces, there has been a major crisis over the past few days due to the rising prices of bread, 600 Syrian pounds for one bag of 8 loaves.
It is indicated that this crisis in bakeries has coincided with the implementation of Caesar law, that was imposed by the U.S. administration on Assad regime and all those dealing with it.
