Armed clashes broke out today around oil wells in the town of Al-Ezba, north of Deir Ezzor, following the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) from several wells and their handover to local investors under leasing contracts.
Local sources reported that the SDF informed residents and investors of the need to review and inspect the wells, which sparked disputes between locals and the investors. These disagreements escalated into armed confrontations, during which several civilians were injured, and some oil wells were set on fire.
The clashes resulted in the deaths of Habash Shami Al-Suwadi and Mansour Al-Shami, in addition to a number of civilians being wounded to varying degrees.
The conflict stems from disputes over the right to invest in the oil wells vacated by the SDF today and handed over to investors, triggering tensions with residents who reject outsiders controlling the resources of their region.
