A source confirmed to Deir Ezzor 24 that in a surprise move, the 5th Corps of Assad’s forces, which is directly under Russian command, has been completely relocated from Deir Ezzor province to the Raqqa countryside recently.
The source added that Assad’s forces and the Russian troops have relocated elements from most areas of eastern Syria, Homs and Damascus countryside to Idlib.
Assad regime and Russia have significantly reduced their forces in Deir Ezzor, which leads to the belief that the Russian-Assad military campaign against Idlib is about to begin, the source said.
The source confirmed that Assad’s forces intend to gradually withdraw from all of Deir Ezzor, and that only the security headquarters and civil police will remain in the main cities.
The source pointed out that the elements of fourth division’s checkpoints have greatly lost their influence and control of the region, especially in Al-Mayadeen and Deir Ezzor city center, while the Iranian forces and their militias are still present in the badiyah of Deir Ezzor, the areas around al-Mayadeen city and the entire city of Al-Bukamal and its villages.
It is worth mentioning that the reduction of Assad’s and Russian forces in Deir Ezzor will increase Iran’s influence in the region and thereby increase its social and military actions there, which will pose a real threat to the social and demographic composition of Deir Ezzor.
