Al-Furat University in Deir Ezzor hosted an awareness seminar titled “Digital Empowerment of Women and Legal Protection Mechanisms,” organized by the Health and Social Uplift Association in Aleppo as part of the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign. The event was supervised by the Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor and supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
The seminar discussed the main challenges women face in the field of technology, highlighting that although digital advancements bring many benefits, they can also contribute to reinforcing certain forms of discrimination if not accompanied by effective protective measures. The event addressed topics such as the digital empowerment of women, legal protection, and mechanisms for reporting violence.
The media director of the Health and Social Uplift Association explained that this activity was held at the Deir Ezzor branch of Al-Furat University as part of a series of events aimed at raising awareness about gender-based violence issues.
The seminar saw collaboration among various official entities, including the Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor, the Directorate of International Cooperation, representatives from the Women’s Committee and Public Relations in the Political Affairs Department, as well as a licensed lawyer from the Deir Ezzor Bar Association.
Attorney Lina Sarraj delivered a specialized lecture on cyber violence and data protection, emphasizing the Bar Association’s commitment to supporting the digital empowerment of women and enhancing their presence in legal fields in light of the rapid digital transformation.
The event concluded with a legal session discussing protection and reporting mechanisms, aimed at raising community awareness on gender issues and supporting the steps toward empowering women in the digital environment.
