Schools have reopened in Deir Ezzor countryside and Raqqa governorate, with the adoption of the Syrian government curriculum, after a long hiatus during which students were deprived of this curriculum, as a result of the control of ISIS and later the SDF over the area.
The Syrian Ministry of Education began sending copies of school books to Raqqa Governorate, Aleppo countryside, and Deir Ezzor countryside, areas that were under the control of the SDF, where teaching in the official Syrian curriculum had been prohibited over the past years.
Abdullah Al-Jassem, a resident of Raqqa Governorate, confirmed that the educational process during the previous stage constituted a great burden on the people, as a result of their being forced to rely on private institutes or seek the help of teachers inside their homes, with the aim of teaching their children the Syrian curriculum.
For his part, Okla Al-Ahmed, a resident of the city of Raqqa, explained that many families refrained from sending their children to school during the period of SDF control, for fear of the curricula that were taught at the time, which people considered to be in violation of the customs and traditions of the local community and its religious values.
