Deir Ezzor, Syria – The Internal Security Forces in Deir Ezzor province imposed a full curfew in the city of Al-Bukamal on Sunday morning, coinciding with the launch of the second phase of a security operation targeting Iran-backed militias.
The curfew, announced via mosque loudspeakers, began at 6:00 a.m. and will remain in effect until further notice.
According to Colonel Dhirar Al-Shamlan, head of internal security in the province, the operation is focused on dismantling remnants of the so-called “47th Regiment,” a militia formerly affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. The group is reportedly active in the Al-Sukkariyah and Al-Hamdan areas near the Syrian-Iraqi border.
Al-Shamlan confirmed that several militia members have already been arrested, although no official numbers or specific details were provided.
The ongoing campaign is part of broader efforts to restore stability in strategic border regions that have seen heightened militia activity in recent years.
