Hundreds of families in the city of Qamishli still suffer from severe water shortages, in light of ongoing daily challenges to obtain safe drinking water, which increases the suffering of residents and affects their daily lives.
In a move to mitigate the crisis, UNICEF implemented a strategic project at Al- Hilaliyah Water Station, aiming to improve the efficiency of water distribution and ensure continuous pumping to various neighborhoods of the city.
The first phase of the project includes the installation of a large elevated water tank, linking three existing ground tanks to the water distribution network, which will contribute to establishing an integrated central system to regulate pumping and significantly reduce waste.
After the project is completed, it is expected that the system will provide a continuous and safe flow of drinking water for approximately 400,000 people, in addition to improving the quality of service throughout all Qamishli neighborhoods.
This vital project is being implemented with support from the UK Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development (FCDO), as part of efforts to improve the city’s water situation and ensure residents have access to safe and sustainable water sources.
