On Sunday, April 19, Deir Ezzor Governorate seized a shipment of illegal fish in Albukamal border area with Iraq, during ongoing inspection tours along the Euphrates River.
The seizure was carried out by the branch of the General Authority for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, where it turned out that the shipment entered from Iraqi territory without official transport documents, and included Euphrates fish in violation of the ban season.
The branch director, Dr. Nafi’ Al-Sayyadi, explained that control patrols immediately moved to the site and confiscated the quantity of 150 kilograms in accordance with legal procedures, before selling it at public auction in coordination with the Authority, while completing the necessary procedures against the violators.
Al-Sayyadi pointed out that the seizure was carried out in a border area in coordination with the Internal Security Command, which reflects the readiness of the surveillance teams and their ability to reach various points, including remote areas.
He stressed that monitoring work is no longer limited to routine tours, but has become an integrated field system aimed at protecting the Euphrates River, preserving fish stocks, and preventing their depletion.
This operation comes within the framework of tightening control over activities related to fish wealth in the governorate, especially in border areas that are witnessing attempts to introduce products without adhering to legal procedures.
