On Wednesday, December 13, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) launched a campaign of arrests in Ash-Shahil town in the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside, arresting five people from the town according to Deir Ezzor 24 network correspondent.
Our correspondent said that the SDF raided many houses in Ash-Shahil town and arrested (Abdul Hamid al-Bash, Bashar al-Hasan al-Muheimid, Tha’er al-Mohsen al-Thamer, Khalid al-Mohammed al-Thamer, and Fayez Al-Hamidi al-Yasin).
Civil sources said that the people arrested during the raid were civilians and had no political or military activities. They attributed the arrest to the demonstrations people held a few days ago to call for the improvement of living conditions in Deir Ezzor, as the arrested persons are active in coordinating protests in Ash-Shahil.
The arrest of the five people by the SDF triggered a wave of popular anger in Ash-Shahil town and the nearby areas, as people considered their arrest as a way of silencing the peaceful voices calling for better living conditions and services.
The SDF released three detainees from Ash-Shahil town this morning, and then arrested the five men from the town, which indicates the continuation of arrests by the SDF.
