Rehabilitation work has started on Freedom Square in central Deir Ezzor, in implementation of the directives of Deir Ezzor Governor Ghassan al-Sayed Ahmed, with joint efforts from the Technical Services Directorate, the E-CLEAN Foundation, and Civil Defense teams, according to a DeirEzzor24 network reporter.
Abdullah Muhammad, the Technical Services Directorate’s field supervisor, told DeirEzzor24 Network that field workshops have begun reforesting the square and connecting electricity to activate the public lighting system. He indicated that this step is part of a broader plan to rebuild the city and restore life to its vital facilities.
Al-Muhammad emphasized that Freedom Square holds a symbolic status among the people of Deir Ezzor, given its history and prominent role during the Syrian revolution. It served as a venue for demonstrations demanding freedom and dignity. It was renamed “Freedom Square” after the city’s liberation, while it was previously known as “Bassel Square” during the former regime.
This initiative plays a significant step toward restoring the city’s image. The city’s cultural legacy and the spirit of hope among its residents, who see the revitalization of the square as an embodiment of the revolution’s pulse and a confirmation of the continuation of the process of change.
