In a move that falls within the preparations to launch a project to rehabilitate one of the most vital roads in Syria, the second batch of heavy machinery belonging to the Saudi company «Al-Rawaf» arrived in Syrian territory, in coordination with the General Corporation for Road Transport, in preparation for starting field work on the Deir Ezzor – Palmyra – Damascus road.
The arrival of this batch represents a new phase of logistical and technical preparations for the project, which aims to rehabilitate the road extending between the eastern region and the capital, Damascus, passing through the city of Palmyra, in a way that enhances the efficiency of the road network and contributes to improving transportation and movement between the governorates.
This step comes as a continuation of the ongoing preparations to secure the necessary equipment and mechanisms to carry out the rehabilitation works, as heavy machinery is expected to constitute an essential element in implementing engineering works related to preparing the road and treating the affected parts of it, in accordance with the approved technical plans and the needs imposed by the nature of the road.
The importance of the Deir Ezzor – Palmyra – Damascus road stems from its geographical location and its role in linking the eastern region to the center of the country, as it constitutes one of the important land corridors for the movement of citizens, trucks, and commercial transportation, in addition to its role in facilitating the movement of goods and basic materials between governorates.
The city of Palmyra also gains special importance within this route, as it is a geographical link between a number of areas and governorates, which makes the rehabilitation of the road an important factor in improving connectivity between regions and facilitating land movement along it.
It is expected that the completion of rehabilitation work, if implemented in accordance with the required technical specifications, will contribute to improving the flow of traffic, reducing the difficulties facing vehicle and truck drivers, as well as enhancing transportation safety and reducing the burdens associated with using damaged roads.
On the economic level, the road represents an important artery for the movement of trade exchange and the transport of goods and products between the eastern region and the capital, which makes improving its technical status a contributing factor in stimulating trade movement and facilitating supply and transportation operations, in addition to providing better conditions for the movement of citizens between governorates.
The arrival of the second batch of mechanisms from the Saudi company «Al-Rawaf» reflects the continued preparations to provide the necessary capabilities and equipment for the project, in coordination with the General Corporation for Road Transport, in preparation for moving from the preparation phase to the field implementation phase.
The importance of the project remains linked to the extent of compliance with technical standards and the quality of implementation, addressing damage to the road, and ensuring traffic safety requirements, ensuring the sustainability of the rehabilitation work and benefiting from it in the long term.
With the completion of the arrival of the required mechanisms and equipment, attention is turning to the launch of field work on this vital axis, the importance of which is not limited to it being a road linking a number of cities and governorates, but also goes beyond that to its role in supporting the movement of transportation and trade and enhancing geographical and economic communication between eastern and central Syria and its capital, Damascus
