In a step aimed at improving the status of drinking water and enhancing water sustainability in the city of Albukamal in the Deir Ezzor countryside, rehabilitation work continues on the main water station, which constitutes the main artery for supplying the city and meets the needs of about 150 thousand people, as part of an integrated project that combines developing the treatment system and raising production capacity, in cooperation between the General Company for Drinking Water and Wastewater and the organizations «Doctors Without Borders MSF» and «We World».

The project work, which is distributed between the two organizations, includes the rehabilitation of a number of vital departments and facilities in the station, which contributes to improving operating efficiency and improving the quality of the water produced.

Doctors Without Borders «MSF» is responsible for rehabilitating chemical precipitators and sand filters, in addition to the operating and sterilization rooms, with the aim of improving the water treatment stages and ensuring better quality before pumping it into the network.

In the meantime, the organization «We World» is working to increase the production capacity of the station, by rehabilitating the raw and pure water pumping halls, and providing three pumping groups for pure water and two groups for raw water, in addition to rehabilitating the second primary sedimentation station and organizing the station yards.

The project work is scheduled to continue for 40 days, to complete the various rehabilitation stages and put the targeted equipment and facilities into service, which will enhance the operational capacity of the station and improve the level of drinking water services in the city.

The project represents an important step towards supporting the water sector infrastructure in Albukamal and improving service continuity and quality, given the station’s vital importance as the city’s primary source of water supply.
