On Wednesday, February 10, 2021, figures and tribal dignitaries held a meeting with officials of the Assad regime in the Deir Ezzor Governorate Council’ building.
The Graduates of Political Sciences Association called for the meeting under the auspice of tribal sheikhs from the al-Jees and al-Jamila tribe to support Bashar al-Assad’s standing for a new presidential term.
Muhammad Dabash al-Malati and Fayez Muhammad al-Malati attended the meeting to represent the the al-Jees tribe, Madlool al-Aziz to represent the al-Baqara tribe, Muhana al-Fayad the sheikh of the al-Busaraya, and tribal sheikhs attended the meeting. Khaled al-Mattorud the head of the Busullah (Compass) Media Center, Musa Abdulnoor head of the Journalists’ Union in Syria, and Doctor Bahjat Akroosh the head of the Talented for the Country Institution also attended the meeting. Hani Barakat ran the meeting.
A source told Deir Ezzor 24 that the attendees agreed to support Assad and draw plans to expel the American occupation from the region, and intermediate for those who would like to reconcile with the regime.
The Assad regime exploits tribes to gather as many supporters as possible in Deir Ezzor.
