Farmers in the Harabesh neighborhood of Deir Ezzor city are suffering due to the diversion of sewage water into a stream that passes near their lands, distancing them from the Euphrates River and making it difficult to access its water, according to DeirEzzor24 Network.
Our correspondent reported that some farmers have been forced to stop cultivating vegetables and seasonal crops due to their inability to irrigate from the Euphrates River, as sewage water runs adjacent to their lands.
Farmer Jassem Al-Ali confirmed that the former regime, after taking control of lands on the opposite bank, redirected the sewage water stream to run near their lands on the Shamiyah (southern) bank.
He added that, in addition to being deprived of agriculture, they also suffer from the foul odors emitted by the sewage and the spread of flies and insects.
Through the DeirEzzor24 Network, he appealed to the concerned authorities to work on changing the course that the former regime had established, in order to help them reinvest in their lands and irrigate directly from the Euphrates River.
