The markets of Deir Ezzor city have recently witnessed a slight increase in meat purchases by residents, according to a reporter of Deirezzor24 Network.
Our reporter said that residents’ reluctance to purchase various types of meat is due to the general increase in meat prices, particularly during Ramadan.
He added that residents face difficulties purchasing meat in Deir Ezzor city due to the deteriorating economic situation, the fact that meat is considered a luxury food, and that chicken meat is only purchased in cases of necessity.
Ms. Nawal Al-Atra, a resident of Deir ez-Zor city, told DEIREZZOR24 Network, “Meat has become a rare food item on Ramadan tables and is not available in all homes due to the deteriorating living conditions and high prices.”
She added, “Some families, when hosting special occasions, resort to purchasing frozen chicken, which is widely available in the city’s markets, due to its low price compared to meat.”
The price of a kilo of lamb in Deir Ezzor ranges between 80,000 and 85,000 Syrian pounds, while veal costs between 70,000 and 75,000 Syrian pounds. The price of a kilo of frozen chicken, which is widely available in Deir ez-Zor’s markets, ranges between 15,000 and 20,000 Syrian pounds.
