A number of Raqqa residents expressed their dissatisfaction with the noticeable increase in the prices of vegetables and fruit during the current days of Ramadan, stressing that their purchasing power has declined significantly in light of the stability of employees’ salaries and their failure to keep pace with the increase in prices, which makes securing daily needs difficult for many families.

Residents explained that the markets witnessed an increase in the prices of a number of basic items, as the price of a kilo of tomatoes reached about 17 thousand liras, cucumbers 14 thousand liras, eggplant 17 thousand liras, and zucchini 18 thousand liras, while the price of peppers reached 15 thousand liras per kilogram.

The price of a kilo of potatoes reached about 5,000 liras, and cabbage 3,000 liras.

As for fruit prices, the price of a kilo of apples reached about 15 thousand liras, while the price of oranges reached 8 thousand liras, and lemons 18 thousand liras, amid demands from residents to tighten control over the markets to limit the rise in prices and control them during the month of Ramadan.

The announcement explained that the project specifically targets the most affected patients, especially cancer patients and dialysis patients, according to specific criteria that ensure that support reaches the most needy groups.

The project managers explained that one of the basic conditions for benefiting from it is that the applicant has not previously received support from Red Crescent projects, calling on those wishing to register to present their personal ID and family register.

Applicants are also required to submit a dialysis patient card, a cancer patient card, or a medical report proving the medical condition, as part of the procedures for verifying eligibility for support.
