In recent years, the phenomenon of delivering orders has become widespread in Deir Ezzor, providing job opportunities for many young people in the city, according to a reporter of DeirEzzor24 Network.
Our reporter said that this phenomenon has spread widely in Deir Ezzor, leading to a recent reduction in wages for workers by half by shopping centers and restaurants.
Muhannad, a delivery worker, told DeirEzzor24 Network, “The daily wage of a delivery worker is 25,000 Syrian pounds if the motorcycle or bicycle is owned by the owner of the shopping center or restaurant, and 40,000 Syrian pounds if the motorcycle is owned by the driver.”
He added, “Wages have decreased to this extent as a result of the closure of delivery offices, as most shop and restaurant owners now have their own delivery services.”
The majority of restaurants, grocery stores, and some telecommunications companies use home delivery services by calling them.
Most often, motorcycles are used, and some shops use electric bicycles for delivery.
Abdullah Al-Saloum, a young delivery worker, confirmed that drivers typically work between 10 and 15 hours a day. Some restaurant owners have resorted to offering drivers a 10 to 15 percent commission if they wish to work a night shift outside of regular business hours.
This profession has become increasingly prevalent in Deir Ezzor, with motorcycles becoming increasingly common in the city and their freedom to roam throughout the city’s main streets, side roads, and residential neighborhoods.
