Deir Ezzor, Syria – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) launched a wide-scale raid early Tuesday morning on the Al-Hamayel neighborhood in the town of Granij, east of Deir Ezzor, detaining dozens of residents, including elderly individuals and minors, amid growing public anger and tension.
According to local sources, the operation was accompanied by physical assaults and verbal abuse during home searches. Witnesses also reported cases of theft, including stolen cash, gold jewelry, and even private vehicles.
Female SDF personnel reportedly participated in searching women, but several residents described the procedures as “humiliating” and “inappropriate.”
The raid has triggered widespread concern among residents, particularly due to the absence of any official statement from the SDF clarifying the reasons behind the arrests or the charges against those detained.
The operation comes amid ongoing security unrest in SDF-controlled areas of eastern Syria, where the group continues to face criticism over its handling of arrests and civilian treatment during military operations.
