The Deir Ezzor 24 Network knew that National Defense (NDF) militia members assaulted a police patrol on the perimeter of Bahret Afraa in Al-Qusour neighborhood in the city of Deir Ezzor. Some fighters, one of whom named Dawood al-Wassal, was arrested; however, the others escaped. Sources emphasized that the fighters were under the influence of drugs.
The sources added that the NDF militia is a major drug and Hashish dealer on behalf of Iranian militias that are spread in the area. It trades in drugs coming from Lebanon and Iraq by selling it in the Assad regime-controlled areas of Deir Ezzor or smuggling it to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) controlled areas.
One of the most prominent affiliates of the Iranian militias involved in drug trafficking is a Commander of the NDF militia known as “Aswad al-Jarrah”, a cousin of “Firas al-Iraqiya”, the NDF commander in Deir Ezzor. Such commanders are influential in the area and commit illegal acts in the context of favoritism.
