On Wednesday, November 18, 2020, Dr. Ghassan al-Yousef chief of the Deir Ezzor Civil Council met a delegation from the town of Ash-Shahil, eastern Deir Ezzor.
A source told Deir Ezzor 24 that the meeting was held upon a request by dignitaries from Ash-Shahil to discuss issues important to Ash-Shahil and the entire area.
The delegation submitted demands to the presidency of the council, most importantly the providing of job opportunities for young men due to high percent of unemployment.
The delegation appealed to Dr. al-Yousef to increase the amount of flour provided for bread bakeries amidst the bread crisis in the area. The delegation demanded the council to provide heating diesel, good quality vehicles fuel as winter approaches, and increase food rations and continue to distribute it.
Dr. al-Yousef asked the delegation to form a committee to follow up with people’s demands, to monitor distributing diesel and food rations, and coordinate with the civil administration.
This meeting coincides with an economic crisis in the area such as the Syrian Lira decreased exchange rate against the dollar, a bread crisis, a severe lack of fuel, and the almost absence of job opportunities for young men.
