Shmitiyah water station in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor has returned to work again, after completing the repair and maintenance work carried out by the technical workshops at the General Institution for Drinking Water and Sanitation, in cooperation with Deir Ezzor Governorate and with the support of the local community, following a hiatus that lasted for about a month.
The station supplies about 50,000 people in the town of Al-Shmitiyah and a number of neighboring villages, as the technical malfunctions it suffered during the recent period led to water being cut off from the residents.
Maintenance work included rehabilitating diesel power plants, in addition to repairing two main pumps that were out of service, which contributed to raising the station’s readiness and gradually restarting it.
The concerned authorities confirmed that resuming water pumping from the station would alleviate the suffering of the residents who depend on it as a main source of drinking water, noting that this step comes within the ongoing efforts to improve the situation of water services and enhance the stability of supplies in various areas of Deir Ezzor Governorate.
