ISIS claimed responsibility on Saturday for two attacks targeting Syrian army personnel in the north and east of the country, speaking of a “new phase of operations” against the Syrian leadership.
The organization said, in a statement published by its Dabiq News Agency, that it targeted an army member in the city of Al-Mayadeen in Deir Ezzor Governorate using a pistol, and also attacked two other members with machine guns in the city of Raqqa.
In a separate incident today, two unknown gunmen believed to belong to ISIS cells carried out a machine gun attack on an Internal Security checkpoint on the outskirts of the village of Al-Sebahiya, west of Raqqa, killing the young man “Ahmed Al-Sayed”, a member of the Internal Security Service.
According to local sources, the checkpoint personnel were able to kill one of the attackers during the clash, while the other fled to an unknown destination, amid a security alert in the area and a pursuit of those involved.
