A meeting occurred in the Governorate Building western al-Jourah neighborhood in the city of Deir Ezzor between a Russian delegation and dignitaries from the Assad regime areas and those controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). Dignitaries, sheikhs, and Mukhtars from different areas of Deir Ezzor attended the meeting that is a part of reconciliation process in the governorate.
The attendees called to support the Russians, Assad regime, and the Iranians; however, they rejected the American presence east of the Euphrates considering it to be occupation. The attendees stressed the necessity of expelling the Americans from the area.
Earlier, such meetings used to be held in the Russian reconciliation centers in the town of Maratt and al-Salihiya. Russia is the guarantor and sponsor of reconciliation agreements with people of the area who would like to reach a settlement and return to the Assad-controlled areas.
Russia has initiated such activities since 2017 when it opened reconciliation centers in Deir Ezzor and called the initiative the Local Reconciliation Initiative.
