On September 26, 2020, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) militia and the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces militia deployed patrols to the city of al-Bukamal in the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside. The patrols raided houses in the area.
Both sides launched the campaign to search for militias’ fighters shown in a video drinking alcohol, smoking Hashish, and taking drugs.
A source from the IRGC militia emphasized that the militias arrested fighters.
The IRGC militia has been controlling al-Bukamal since 2017. Later, al-Bukamal became the IRGC’ largest stronghold in Syria.
