The Assad-regime has closed schools in Al-Joura, Al-Harabesh, and Al-Qusour districts of Deir Ezzor city for the second week in a row until further notice.
The reason behind shutting down schools is due to ISIS mortar attacks, which have recently been intensified on the regime-held areas in Deir Ezzor. Several shells have hit schools and educational facilities so far, D24 correspondent in the besieged districts of Deir Ezzor said.
He added ‘’ another reason is that students and teachers have stopped going to schools in the regime-held areas of Deir Ezzor as the arrest campaigns, which are carried out by the regime forces on a daily basis, target both students and teachers to draw them into the regime’s compulsory military services, and then place them on the fronts against ISIS in Deir Ezzor.’’
It is worth mentioning that ISIS mortar attack last December on the Al-Harabesh primary school for girls east the city of Deir Ezzor, led to the death of 11 schoolgirls and injury of four others. On the other hand, the regime continues its arrest campaigns, which in most cases target students and civilians in its held areas. The number of civilians who have been arrested by the regime in Deir Ezzor up until now has jumped up to 200 civilians.
