A new shipment of Iraqi wheat has entered Syria as part of a humanitarian aid convoy provided by the Iraqi people to the Syrian people, according to a reporter of DeirEzzor24.
Engineer Abdul Rahman Al-Awad, head of the Deir Ezzor branch of the Syrian Grain Establishment, told DeirEzzor24 Network: “The total amount of aid is 220,000 tons of wheat, ,nearly 100,000 tons of which were previously imported during the former regime, while the remaining quantities are currently being imported.”
Al-Awad explained that the distribution process is carried out according to a plan organized by the General Directorate of the Establishment, considering each province’s needs. Regarding Deir Ezzor province, he clarified that quantities are allocated based on actual need, especially given the presence of two main mills in the city: the government-owned Al-Furat Mill and the private Al-Sumaria Mill. Each of these mills receives between four and five trucks loaded with wheat, each carrying between 55 and 70 tons.
He also said that around 10 trucks were unloaded in Deir Ezzor as the first batch, while approximately 167 trucks, equivalent to 10,000 tons, have crossed the Syrian border so far. A large portion of this has been distributed to other provinces, such as Homs, Hama, Aleppo, and Idlib.
Awad finished his statement by indicating that the arriving quantities of wheat will contribute to increasing the country’s flour stocks. He emphasized that the quality of the wheat is excellent of the soft variety suitable for bread production, which will directly reflect on the quality of the loaf, something citizens will notice in the coming days.
This initiative comes at a critical time, as it proves real support for food security and an expression of the deep brotherly relations between the Syrian and Iraqi peoples, amid hopes that these efforts will continue toward greater stability and improved living conditions.
