Informed sources told Deir Ezzor 24 network that the head of al-Bukamal nahiya was injured when farmers affiliated with Hashd Al-Shaabi and the Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) militias beat him as he was trying to arrest them for not delivering wheat crops to Assad regime.
Assad regime’s agricultural institutions like the Farmers’ Union, force farmers in the regime-controlled areas of Deir Ezzor to deliver a certain amount of wheat equal to the amount of agricultural fertilizer they recieved from the institutions under penalty of arrest.
According to the sources, wheat is sold on market at 1.6 million Syrian pounds per ton, while the Farmers’ Union gives farmers just 800,000 SYP per ton, moreover it takes 270 kilograms for each dunum of land the farmers have, without taking into account the success or failure of the harvest, which increases farmers suffering.
