Everyone has seen the latest Daesh propaganda video showing a meeting held between the organization and some of the dignitaries of Al-Shaitat tribe who witnessed outspoken massacres, mounting to acts of extermination, at the hands of the group before. In the video, the dignitaries called upon the anti-Daesh fighters in the ranks of the Syrian Opposition to return to Deir Ezzor and pledge their allegiance to the organization, emphasizing that they will be given safety.
Amid these calls and unassured promises, the organization shocked all the tribes in Deir Ezzor, including Al-Busraya tribe, after it beheaded 15 civilians from the town of Al-Tabani, Deir Ezzor’s western countryside, on the first day of Eid Al-Adha. Seven of the executed come from one of the biggest tribes in Deir Ezzor and its surroundings- the tribe of Al-Busraya. They were all suspected of spying on the group for the international coalition.
The irony is that the execution came after Daesh made a promise to the Al-Shaitat tribe that it would issue amnesty on all of their sons fighting in the ranks of the opposition, which is a clear-cut proof that the group cannot be trusted. Even the 15 decapitated civilians had neither worked for the coalition nor the Syrian Opposition.
Since Daesh established full control over Deir Ezzor in 2014, it has resorted to terror tactics to subjugate the tribes in order to maintain its control over the province. However, it has not yet succeeded in containing all of them. The tribes in Deir Ezzor are still being persecuted and subjected to all types of brutal atrocities at the hands of the group.
