The village of Al-Shula, located west of Deir Ezzor, suffers from a complete lack of basic services. Residents lack access to healthcare, education, and drinking water, according to DeirEzzor 24 Network.

Our correspondent said that residents live under constant threat due to the spread of mines and unexploded ordnance. Over the past three months, these mines have killed more than 30 residents of the villages of Al-Shula and Kabajib, in addition to the deaths of more than 70 sheep as a result of mine explosions.

In a statement to Deir ez-Zor 24 Network, Musab Al-Saleh, an official in the Social Affairs Department, said that he conducted an inspection tour of the village of Al-Shula and listened to residents’ demands, which centered on the need to remove mines and improve services in the village.

Al-Saleh explained that the village has a desalination center for drinking water, but it is not operational and requires support from humanitarian organizations and relevant authorities.

Al-Saleh also stressed the need to re-open the health center in Al-Shula, especially with the approach of summer, which witnesses an increase in scorpion stings. These stings can lead to death due to the distance from medical centers. Residents are forced to travel more than 35 kilometers to reach hospitals in Deir ez-Zor city for treatment.

Al-Shula, a modest village of just over 30 families, has suffered from a severe lack of public services since the era of the former regime due to its location in the desert and its distance from city centers.
