On Sunday, a fracas occurred at a coffee shop in besieged Deir Ezzor after a member of pro-Assad NDF militia had a disagreement with a militiaman affiliated with a Shaitat tribe battalion, who joined the regime ranks following Daesh seizure of rural Deir Ezzor. The disagreement escalated into serious clashes.
A source in the besieged neighborhoods indicated that, “A member of NDF militia, along with his comrade, beat a pro-Assad Al-Shaitat tribe militiaman with a chair, and wounded him in the leg with a gun.”
He added, “The fracas escalated into clashes when a group of pro-regime Al-Shaitat fighters rushed to Al-Wadi Street and clashed with NDF militia, using grenades and medium weaponry. After clashes continued for several hours, regime Republican Guards militia intervened and managed to put an end to the infighting.”
Assad forces in Deir Ezzor rely on several local militias such as NDF and tribal militiamen, as well as foreign Shiite militias from Palestine, Iran and Iraq to compensate the extreme manpower shortage.
