Today, Friday, May 22nd, 2020, the international coalition announced in an official statement that two of Daesh most prominent leaders were killed during an operation it described as “qualitative” in the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside.
According to the statement, on May 17, 2020, the international coalition, accompanied by a group of SDF members, killed Ahmed Issa Ismail Ibrahim al-Zawi, known as “Abu Ali al-Baghdadi”, who was holding the position of the wali (governor) of the northern Baghdad region, and Ahmed Abd Mohammed Hassan al-Jaghaifi, known as “Abu Ammar,” the top Daesh logistics officer.
It is recalled that on May 17th, the international coalition carried out a security operation targeting a house in one of Al-Bussairah city’s neighborhoods in the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside.
It is indicated that the international coalition and the SDF have carried successive security operations in the areas of Deir Ezzor (east of the Euphrates) recently in search of Daesh operatives and cells in the region.
