The 4th Division Security Office increased the taxes of entering the city of Deir Ezzor through the al-Banorama roundabout and river crossings from 300 to 5,000 Syrian pounds (SYP) per vehicle. The 4th division increased the taxes to compensate for decreasing the number of checkpoints between the city of Deir Ezzor and its western countryside.
The 4th Division established checkpoints all over Deir Ezzor such as at the entrance of the city, and the al-Banorama and al-Salihiya checkpoints near al-Bukamal, as well as checkpoints at river crossings with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)-controlled areas.
These checkpoints impose taxes on passers-by, merchants and civilians, to exacerbate people’s suffering, as a result of the violations and abuses that the forces of the “Assad regime” and its institutions continue to commit to blackmail the residents and worsen their living conditions.
