The price of diesel “al-Awik” has scored a remarkable increase in the northern Deir Ezzor countryside, which is controlled by the Assad’ militias. The price reached 2,500 Syrian pounds per liter.
The people attributed the high prices to the scarcity of oil smuggling operations from the Syrian Democratic Forces-controlled areas, in addition to the extortion practiced by the 4th Division at checkpoints, which are located at the entrances to the regions, villages and main roads.
The so-called “Hilal Al-Askar” from The town of Thiban is considered one of the agents who carry out oil smuggling from the SDF-controlled areas to the “Assad” areas, while the Al-Qaterji Company is responsible for smuggling operations on the side of the Assad regime.
