Humanitarian and relief efforts continue in Deir Ezzor Governorate to mitigate the repercussions of the rainstorm and floods that hit several areas. The Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor, in cooperation with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, continues to implement emergency response operations for the second day in a row, with the aim of meeting the basic needs of affected families and providing them with relief and health support.

As part of the Emergency Response Committee’s plan in the governorate, humanitarian interventions included the villages of Hribsha and Kabajib, where food and non-food aid was distributed to 181 affected families, including baskets of canned food, mattresses, blankets, and chargers, in addition to baskets containing women’s supplies, in order to provide part of the necessary needs of families affected by floods and harsh weather conditions.

This aid came with support from the World Food Programme, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the United Nations Population Fund, within the framework of cooperation between humanitarian agencies and international organizations to enhance the response to the growing needs in the affected areas, and to ensure that aid reaches the most needy families.

The response was not limited to the relief aspect, but extended to include the health sector, as a mobile medical clinic provided health care services to 63 people from the two villages, facilitating the residents’ access to medical services, especially in light of the conditions imposed by the floods and the difficulties they may cause in movement and access to health centers.

The health intervention was implemented with support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, as part of efforts to strengthen field health services and reduce the burdens on affected populations, by delivering medical care to areas in need of urgent interventions.

These moves come in coordination between Deir Ezzor Governorate and the Directorates of Emergency, Disaster Management, Social Affairs, Labor and International Cooperation, within the framework of a joint response plan aimed at organizing humanitarian work and unifying the efforts of the concerned authorities, in a way that ensures the delivery of aid and services to those who deserve them according to field needs.

The continuation of response operations for the second day reflects the importance of ongoing humanitarian interventions in confronting the effects of natural disasters, especially in areas affected by heavy rains and floods, where food and non-food aid and health services are essential elements in supporting affected families and helping them overcome emergency conditions.

With continued coordination between government agencies and humanitarian organizations, the priority remains to assess needs on the ground, follow up on the conditions of affected families, and enhance relief and health interventions in proportion to the extent of the damage and needs, in order to ensure the stability of the living conditions of the population in the affected areas.
