On Sunday, October 25, 2026, the Environmental Control and Inspection Office of the Environment Directorate in Hasakah, in coordination with the Environmental Safety Department, carried out a field inspection tour that included a number of primitive burning sites in the city, in response to residents’ complaints about unpleasant odors and polluting emissions resulting from the operation of these burning sites.

During the tour, the monitoring team was briefed on the environmental damage resulting from the burning and refining of petroleum derivatives using primitive and unsafe methods, and the emissions and pollutants they cause that pose a threat to air quality and the health of the population, in addition to their negative effects on the soil, vegetation cover and ecological balance in the surrounding areas.

The Environment Directorate explained that it had previously prepared inspection reports documenting environmental violations associated with these burners, and submitted them to the relevant authorities to take the necessary measures, noting the continuation of field tours in coordination with the competent authorities to follow up on the sources of pollution and limit its effects.

These moves come within the framework of efforts aimed at strengthening environmental control, responding to citizens’ complaints, and reducing practices that threaten environmental safety and public health, amid residents’ demands to take effective measures to ensure that this phenomenon is addressed and its repercussions are reduced.
