The Spokesperson for Secretary-General and the UN, Stephane Dujarric, said in a briefing held last Friday: ” that thousands of civilians were forced to flee from the Syrian Deir Ezzor governorate because of the renewed fighting.”
Dujarric added “Thousands of Syrians have been forced to flee from Deir Ezzor governorate, in the eastern part of Syria, over the past six months, and the UN refugee agency said it is deeply concerned by reports of mounting civilian casualties, and large-scale civilian displacement amid renewed fighting in Hajin area in Deir Ezzor governorate.”
And the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General and the UN continued by saying:
“The UN refugee agency confirmed that over the last six months, the clashes and airstrikes in the south-east part of the governorate forced about 25,000 people to flee from their homes, and it called upon all actors including its humanitarian partners to ensure freedom of movement and to provide safe passages.”
And it was mentioned during the briefing that most of the newly displaced people came to Al-hol IDPs camp, where more than 8,500 people have arrived in the past five weeks.
And many of them were suffering from exhaustion after they had to flee on foot, and they seemed very tired, as some of them spent four or more nights in the desert, under heavy rains and in cold weather.
