The SDF has stepped up its security measures in several areas of the Deir Ezzor countryside and in Raqqa, one day after the announcement of the agreement between the Syrian Arab Republic, represented by President Ahmed al-Sharaa, and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), represented by Mazloum Abdi.
A DeirEzzor24 network correspondent said that the SDF raised the alert level in areas under its control in Deir Ezzor, Hasakah, and Raqqa, and carried out raids and arrest campaigns in several areas of the Deir Ezzor countryside yesterday, such as the towns of al-Shaitat and al-Jarthi in the east, and Muhaimidah and Zughayr Jazira in the west.
He added that the raids resulted in the arrest of several individuals and the confiscation of weapons. In the al-Shaitat area, the main reason for the raids was the crossing of several individuals belonging to the Syrian Army and General Security from the area yesterday afternoon into their homes in the towns of al-Kashkiya and Gharanij. This prompted the SDF to mobilize and raid those towns. The SDF-affiliated Hajin Military Council later described them as a “terrorist cell.” He noted that the SDF arrested some young men in Raqqa and Hasakah in connection with yesterday’s celebrations of the agreement, and that the raids continued until after midnight last night.
The SDF has instructed all owners of river crossings in Deir Ezzor to completely close them to residents, today until further notice.
