DeirEzzor24 exclusive report
Over the past two days, the Revolutionary Guard militia has tightened its security measures around the ancient Al-Rahba Castle in the city of Al-Mayadeen, east of Deir Ezzor, according to a DeirEzzor24 network local reporter.
Our reporter said that the militia increased the number of its checkpoints spread around the citadel, deployed new elements and provided them with weapons and ammunition, due to the Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas Brigade militia affiliated with the Revolutionary Guard continuing to excavate antiquities in the ancient al-Rahba Citadel.
He pointed out that drilling and excavation operations use simple drilling tools and a single “compressor” machine that operates on an electric generator and a metal detector, without any interference from heavy drilling machines because it is impossible to enter the castle as a result of the nature of the castle’s construction and its containment of many caves and grottoes, which is different from excavation operations. In the vicinity of the castle, heavy machinery was used under the pretext of digging tunnels and constructing underground headquarters.
It is noteworthy that the Iranian-backed militias resumed excavations in archaeological sites in Deir ez-Zor, and began from the site of the ruins of the town of Salhiya in the Al-Bukamal countryside, weeks ago.
