Deir Ezzor 24 network continues to cover the spread of Leishmaniasis in the eastern and western countryside of Deir Ezzor, where the network learned through its correspondents that leishmaniasis has spread widely among the people of Deir Ezzor, especially children.
Deir Ezzor 24 network correspondent in Al-Azbah and Maezila areas in the northern Deir Ezzor countryside said that every week, more than 80 cases of leishmaniasis enter the medical centers in the area, according to a medical worker.
Our correspondent added that the medical centers and hospitals in Deir Ezzor suffer from a severe shortage of medicines required for the treatment of leishmaniasis, in addition to a shortage of technicians and nurses needed to cover all the cases, where each case requires approximately 8 doses of treatment every month.
A medical source in the northern Deir Ezzor countryside confirmed to Deir Ezzor 24 network that infections have started to appear among adults recently, which is a serious indicator of the prevalence of leishmaniasis.
Leishmaniasis is a fungal disease that affects the human skin due to exposing to disease-carrying sand flies, and the main cause for the spread of those flies is the accumulation of dirt and lack of hygiene.
